Secondly, I'm posting the words that your child has been learning when reading non-fiction books. They will be taking a quiz over these words and definitions but they will be using their books that have the definitions to answer the questions.
Lastly, I'm going to upload a ppt slideshow tomorrow we used to teach the kids about Early Cypress so you can see what we've been learning. Have a great night!
Non-Fiction Text Features and Definitions-
Bibliography: -
A bibliography is found at the end of a book or research paper. This resource lists books that were used to gather information for the report.
Bold Print –
Bold print focuses the reader’s attention on new or important words in a text. These words can often times be found in the glossary at the end of the book.
Bullets–
Bullets are used to organize information that is presented in the form of a list.
Caption –
A caption is located on or near pictures to explain or give the readers information about the picture.
Colored Print –
Colored print focuses the reader’s attention on new or important words in a text. These words can often times be found in the glossary at the end of the book.
Diagram –
A diagram is a drawing that shows and identifies the parts of something. Usually includes labels.
Fact Box –
A fact box provides the readers with additional information about a topic.
Glossary –
The glossary is an alphabetical list of new or important words found in a text. In the glossary, you can also find the meaning of the new words.
Graph –
A graph is a visual representation of information found within a text. This allows the readers to better understand the information.
Heading –
A heading tells the reader what a specific section will be about.
Illustration –
An illustration is a picture that has been drawn to help the reader visualize the information in a text.
Index –
An index is an alphabetical listing of the topics found in a text.
Italic Print –
Italic print focuses the reader’s attention on new or important words in a text. These words can often times be found in the glossary at the end of the book.
Labels –
A label helps the reader identify a picture or a photograph and its parts.
Map –
A map shows the location of places of things.
Photograph –
A photograph is a picture that has been taken with a camera. It captures how things look in real life.
Pronunciation Guide –
A pronunciation guide tells the reader how to correctly read and pronounce new words.
Table of Contents –
The table of content provides the reader with the name of each heading of a text and the page number for which each section begins.
Table –
A table is a chart of information that is often used when comparing information in a text.
Timeline –
A timeline shows important events in a sequential order.
Title –
A title is the name of a book and introduces the topic of a text.
